Sometimes what we see as misbehaving is actually the result of our pets trying to communicate with us about things like their food, need for exercise, & possibly unseen pain.

If you are confident in your decision to re-home your pet, please complete the applicable pet surrender form from the list below:

• Cat surrender form.
• Dog surrender form.

As a nonprofit shelter, we use the $50 owner surrender fee to help us care for the 11,000 pets we accept each year. Owner surrender fees vary for exotics, fish, pocket pets, & farm animals.

• A completed dog, cat or other pet surrender form. You can download one from the list above or request one when you arrive at the center.
• Your pet’s vaccination & medical records.
• Your pet’s likes, dislikes, daily habits.
• Your pet’s compatibility with other dogs, cats, & children.
• Your pet's history. Are you the first owner, has the pet always lived in Marion County, was the pet the smallest in the litter?
• Toys, blankets & other loved items that would bring your pet comfort. Please know we cannot guarantee that these items will remain with your pet.
• Your current photo ID. You must be 18 or older to surrender an animal.

Your involvement in the surrender process may take 45 to 60 minutes greatly depending on whether or not you’ve completed the appropriate surrender form. The more information you provide about the pet you are surrendering, the easier a transition into a new forever home will be on your pet.

Please consider visiting us during our less busy times which are approximately one hour after opening and at least three hours before close. Just after we open, during lunch time, & between 5 & 6 p.m. are our busiest times.

We will immediately brings your pet's vaccinations up to date if needed.

Your pet will be evaluated for potential placement in our adoptions program.
