Animal Services provides lower-cost spay/neuter surgeries for animals of Marion County residents through its Neuter Commuter program.

Services can be scheduled for the Neuter Commuter which is located at our shelter. The fees include the animal's surgical sterilization, rabies vaccination, county license, & microchip implant.

All schedules are subject to change. Please visit the Marion County Animal Services Facebook page for any changes to service or location. This service is only available to Marion County residents, and proof of residency is required.

At this time, all appointments will be scheduled to take place at our shelter: 5701 SE 66th St., Ocala, FL 34480.

Neuter Commuter Fees

$75 package fee
$20 low-income pet owners (verification required)
- Eligibility for the low-cost spay/neuter program requires pet owners to present current proof of the following: government assistance, total household income, most recent tax return statement, or legal/dated proof of qualifying below the federal poverty guidelines.

Only cash or credit card payments will be accepted for payment, which is required at the time of drop-off.

What to Know Prior to Your Appointment

Pets must be dropped off & picked up at the assigned time. All appointments are at 8:30AM, & pick up time is 3PM, unless otherwise specified by a staff member.

Animals must have no food or water after midnight the night before surgery. Animals must not have food or water the morning of surgery.

All dogs must be on a leash, & all cats must be in a carrier. Dogs weighing more than 65lbs will not be accepted.

If you are unable to keep your scheduled appointment, please immediately email us to avoid being labeled as a "no show." Doing so my help us rearrange our schedule to allow for the most efficient & prepared daily operations.

What Happens the Day of the Appointment

Animal owners check in with their animals. Staff will process their payments.

When the paperwork is complete, the animal is brought aboard the bus for a brief physical examination to ensure that the animal is healthy enough to have surgery & is within the size limitations of the bus. Our weight limit has changed to 65lbs. If your dog is larger then our limit, please reach out to our local partners, identified below.

After the last customer has given their animal to staff, staff will begin procedures.

Animals are anesthetized, shaven, and prepped for surgery by veterinary technicians. Our staff veterinarian performs the spay/neuter surgeries.

After the surgery is complete, staff place animals into built-in kennels for recovery until you pick them up.

What Happens After the Appointment

Pet owners are due back at 3:30pm.

Before the animals are taken home, one of the staff members will talk about the day's surgery, & will inform customers about the special post-surgery care their animals will need.

Your pet will need to be kept as inactive as possible during the healing period of 7-10 days. Do not lift your pet near its surgical site. Do not take your pet on long walks or give it a bath during healing without consulting a veterinarian. If your pet has any complications after surgery, please contact us during business hours at 352-671-8700.
