Lost & found pets
If You've Lost Your Pet
It's heartbreaking to lose a pet, & we're here to help reunite you. We also provide guidance if you've found a stray animal. The moment you realize your pet is missing, taking immediate action is key.
-
Submit a Lost Report Online: The first step is to complete our Lost Pet Form through our system. You can access the form and tools to search our database & create a Lost Pet Flyer to post in your area. Our online database refreshes every hour, so please check it frequently until your pet is safe at home.
-
Visit Our Shelter: We strongly advise you to come to our shelter in person & walk through our kennels. It's best to visit every 3-4 days to look for your lost pet, as new animals arrive regularly.
Found a Stray?
Stray animals are brought to our shelter by Animal Control Officers or concerned residents like you. If you've found a pet, please fill out our Found Pet Form. You can also bring the pet to be scanned for a microchip at a local veterinary office or select pet stores.
Found kittens?
Don't KIT-nap them! Click here for more information about what to do.
Only if you ALREADY have kittens in your care, visit this page to learn how to bottle feed, determine age or sex, & recognize common conditions.
Kittens should remain in the care of their mothers until they are 8 weeks of age.
Other Local Resources
Other agencies in our area may also take in stray animals. The Humane Society of Marion County sometimes accepts stray animals when they have available space. You can reach them at 352-873-7387 or via email at info@thehsmc.org to inquire about a lost or found pet.
If you are reporting an animal emergency, please call our Animal Control division at 352-671-8727. After-hours emergencies should be reported to 352-732-9111.
